November 1967. Geneviève Émery lives with her mother, a colt who owns an umbrella shop in Cherbourg. Despite Mme Émery's disapproval, Geneviève loves the garage owner Guy Fouchet. They share an intense passion and have future plans. But Guy has to do his military service in Algeria. After he leaves, Geneviève receives him. Two months pass.
