At the beginning of the 20th century in Austria, young Toerless enters a boarding school. One night, a robbery takes place. Two students, Reiting and Beineberg, unmask the culprit and threaten to denounce him if he doesn't satisfy their desires. Poor Basini is subjected to all kinds of criticism and abuse, under the watchful eye of Toerless, a passive but troubled observer.
