Fabrice du Welz is a Belgian director and screenwriter. Trained as an

actor at the École d'art dramatique de Liège and then in directing at

INSAS, he has developed a unique, intense and embodied style of cinema. He has directed

actors such as Benoît Poelvoorde, Chadwick Boseman,

Luke Evans, and made notable films such as Calvaire, Alleluia,

Message from the King, Adoration, Inexorable, and Maldoror.

Alongside his work as a filmmaker, he regularly lectures at

major film and theater schools (ESACT, La Fémis,

CNSAD, etc.). Since 2013, he has also hosted HOMECINEMA, a

program dedicated to cinema news, welcoming numerous

personalities from the Belgian and international film industry.

 

 

The acting in front of the camera workshop:

The workshop is structured around three progressive phases, designed to

guide actors and actresses towards a natural, solid, and

embodied presence in front of the camera.

Phase 1 – The hook / the present

Trainees will work on listening, authenticity, and availability in front of

the camera. The aim is to seize the moment, to be fully in the "

here and now," attentive to others. This step is fundamental: it

lays the foundation for any credible performance on screen.

Phase 2 – The line of action

The work deepens around the actor's tools: technical precision,

exploration of the emotional palette, and character construction.

We will address the line of action, that inner force that guides the

character and leads them toward their super-objective—the synthesis of all

their objectives.

This phase allows us to weave the soul of the character by drawing on

the actor's intimate experience. The tools covered include affective and sensory memory,

as well as the central principle: “I want + an action verb.”

Phase 3 – The Super Objective

In the final phase, all that has been learned is harmonized in order to

build a coherent, profound, and embodied performance. Each

individual objective converges toward the same inner movement,

allowing the actor to capture attention with a presence that is both

authentic and powerful.

 

This work requires time, commitment, and humility.

The goal of this workshop is clear: to enable actors and actresses

to approach auditions and castings with greater serenity,

confidence, and inner strength, by providing them with concrete, proven,

and lasting tools.

 

Practical information:

 The workshop will be held from April 27 to Friday, May 1, Monday to

Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will take place at the Palace cinema, 85 Boulevard

Anspach, 1000 Brussels.

 Price: €300 for a 5-day course.
