CLUB 35 - JUDGE DREDD - 35MM
One Thursday per month, Palace offers a “cinema classic” to watch or rewatch on the big screen.
Since the early days of cinema, sound has often been regarded as the poor relation of filmmaking. However, this perception changed dramatically with the arrival of Dolby systems in the late 1970s, and even more so in the mid-1990s with the introduction of digital sound recorded directly onto 35mm film.
Thanks to this technological breakthrough, high-fidelity, multichannel digital sound became accessible to the entire film industry and to all filmmakers.
More than thirty years later, Judge Dredd remains a perfect example: its exceptional soundtrack, filled with immersive effects, perfectly showcases the full potential of the Dolby Digital system.
A short pre-show program will remind us of the importance of this sound revolution through the iconic THX and Dolby Digital trailers, as well as the Star Wars re-releases in digital sound.
At Palace, state-of-the-art sound installations and equipment allow you to rediscover the full richness of both classic and contemporary cinematic heritage.
Jean-Pierre Verscheure, curator and specialist in the history of cinema techniques, along with Fabrice du Welz, Belgian director and screenwriter, will present this copy.
