Cinemaximiliaan Short Films - en présence de Béla Tarr & des réalisateurs

Go back

We’re happy to announce the avant-première of six short films made at Cinemaximiliaan by Marof Hakimi, Rand Abou Fakher, Anastasia Zolkina, Louay Dabous, Omar Al-Samarai and Angela Al-Souliman.

The short film program will be presented at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in presence of the directors of each short film and of Béla Tarr. After the films there will be a debate moderated by Gwendolyn Lootens and Gawan Fagard, coordinators of Cinemaximiliaan.

Film director Béla Tarr accompanied several participants of Cinemaximiliaan in the process of making a short film. The shooting took place in the project house in Molenbeek during the month of April.

We also bring in avant-premiere the very first Cinemaximiliaan short film by the Hakimi family, assisted by directors Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami and Julie De Clercq.

Cinemaximiliaan brings films and debates to asylum centres, private homes and cinemas, bridging newcomers with locals in a personal way. The starting point of this film project is each participants’ desire to share his or her story through a short film. Films are made in and around the Cinemaximiliaan project house, where people gather, sleep over, work and make movies together. Founders and coordinators Gawan and Gwendolyn are living in the house and sharing space and time to build bridges between people. The house figures as a character in the movies, and transforms itself into a film set. All people involved in the film project are putting their energy on a voluntary basis - some people have a lot of experience, others are learning audiovisual skills through the whole process of making films.

Thank you to all participants and volunteers to make this project possible!

Other participants to the workshop with Béla Tarr, who received feedback on their projects:
Fatma Osman, Mojtaba Bahadori, Mays Algayyar, Obaidullah Karimy, Hassan Ali, Joachim Michaux, Gwendolyn Lootens & Lubnan Al-Wazny
