Quels sont les films qui ont fait connaître les réalisateurs de la Nouvelle Vague, et qui sont les étoiles montantes de la nouvelle génération?

EUROPALIA ROMANIA leur consacre une journée entière avec deux projections de courts-métrages anciens (15:00) et plus récents (19:00), et une table ronde (17:00) avec cinq personnalités qui ont contribué à la formation du nouveau Cinéma.

Coffee & Cigarettes - An old man enters a restaurant in Bucharest. He takes a seat at a table where a younger man who looks like he could be a successful businessman is already eating dessert. Their short meeting shows two generations with different mentalities, but who act according to the same principle: Kent cigarettes and a pack of coffee can make the difference when you want to get a new job. Traffic - While on his way for a business meeting, Tudor is having an unexpected 30 minutes break, because of the impossible traffic. He’s got enough time to have a coffee, to talk a little about his beloved little girl and to take a picture.(16')

The Tube with a Hat - Very early in the morning, Marian, a 7-year-old boy from a small isolated Romanian village, wakes up his father and persuades him to go into town to fix their old TV set. Despite the bad weather, the father finally agrees. Marian and his father start out, carrying the TV set, hoping that in the city they will find Bichescu, a specialist, who will fix their problem. Depuis près de 20 ans, le cinéma roumain a connu une croissance impressionnante depuis le début de la «Nouvelle vague»: industrie cinématographique rétablie, innombrables récompenses et reconnaissances internationales, coproductions précieuses, récits divers et expériences formelles.

Faisant le point de ces progrès, «Eye on Romanian Cinema» présente une table ronde engageante avec certaines des personnes clés qui ont observé et contribué à la montée en puissance du nouveau cinéma roumain, en offrant un aperçu de son histoire récente, de ses succès et de ses horizons futurs.

- DOMINIQUE NASTA

Dominique Nasta est Professeure ordinaire en études cinématographiques à l’Université libre de Bruxelles. Elle a dirigé le département d’études cinématographiques de 1991 à 2011 et a été Professeure invitée aux Universités de Montréal (2013) , Strasbourg (2015) ainsi qu’à l’Université de Buenos Aires (2019). Elle  a publié plusieurs ouvrages à titre de seul auteur ou en co-édition dont : Contemporary Romanian Cinema : The History of an Unexpected Miracle (2013), Meaning in Film : Relevant Structures in Soundtrack and Narrative (1992), Le son en perspective : nouvelles recherches (2004), Le Mélodrame filmique revisité (2014) et plus récemment  La chanson dans les cinémas d’Europe et d’Amérique Latine 1960-2010 (2019).

Elle est l’auteure de nombreux essais et chapitres d'ouvrages collectifs sur les émotions et la musique au cinéma, le cinéma roumain, les cinémas d’Europe de l’Est, l’esthétique des Mélodrames muets, les Européens dans le cinéma Hollywoodien, le cinéma de Michelangelo Antonioni. Dominique Nasta dirige la collection bilingue Repenser le cinéma aux éditions PIE Peter Lang. 

- BIANCA OANA

BIANCA OANA est un scénariste et productrice dédié à la découverte de cinéastes avec
une vision artistique particulière, quel que soit le support choisi.

Bianca produit actuellement le dernier film d’Alexander Nanau (colectiv), le premier documentaire roumain de la sélection officielle de Venise Film Festival et sera également projeté au Festival international du film de Toronto (TIFF)
Docs) et le documentaire "Golden Girl" de HBO Europe, coproduit par Edmont Media and Monogram Film - société fondée par Bianca en 2015. Elle travaille aussi sur le prochain projet d’Adina Pintilie, "Death and the Maiden" (titre provisoire) et
participe également en tant que tuteur, consultant et / ou expert à divers projets de développement ou programmes et ateliers de l'industrie du pitching.

- CORINA SUTEU

Corina Șuteu est consultante culturelle internationale, ancienne ministre roumaine de la Culture, fondatrice et présidente de "Making Waves", festival du film roumain de New York, et de fArad, festival international du film documentaire d'Arad, ainsi que curatrice d'Insula 42, une pôle culturel basé à Bucarest.
En 2015, elle était coordinatrice générale du spectacle "Adrian Ghenie Solo" à la Biennale de Venise.

- DANA BUNESCU

Dana Bunescu (née le 11 septembre 1969) est la principale monteuse de film et de son du Nouveau cinéma roumain. Elle est la conceptrice sonore de tous les films de Radu Jude. En 2018, elle a coréalisé avec Mona Nicoară le documentaire «La distance entre moi et moi».

- IRINA TROCAN

Irina Trocan est critique de cinéma et académicienne, auteur de la publication d’EUROPALIA-ROMANIA intitulée «Le cinéma roumain au premier plan: perspectives sur la culture, l’industrie et la politique cinématographiques» entre 1912 et 2011.

- ANDREI TANASESCU

Curateur et programmateur de festival, basé à Toronto et Bucarest, curateur du programme EUROPALIA-ROMANIA film programme Videograms of a Nation.

• Border - A story which follows the borders that have silently grown between a man and a woman. Interior, emotional borders. The ones which separate us before any other. Feeling that his wife has grown estranged from him after years of working abroad, Tavi decides to go to France and convince her to come home. Angela, his wife, has a hard time telling him the truth he needs to hear until Tavi 's desperate gesture forces her to do so.  Directed by: Andra Chiriac, 27'
• Ivy - At a dinner party with her friends, Zoe introduces Duncan, her new foreign boyfriend. Everybody seems to get along, but Zoe has a secret that is weighing her down. Directed by: Sarra Tsorakidis, 27'
• A Death In My Family - "I always thought the world would stop spinning when a loved one dies. But it did not stop." Grandma is terminally ill, while the rest of the family frets with Easter preparations. The camera observes the familial dynamics and creates a reflection on death from the granddaughter's perspective. Directed by: Andra Tarara, 14'
• What time is made of - What if you found a message in a bottle in the form of a sealed film can, which your younger self had sent 30 years ago? After processing this 16mm reel, swept ashore on the beaches of France, I discovered that the sea had left its mark and the film bears the memory of all the things it witnessed in its journey to land. However, these images proved to be my own childhood memories. Directed by:Diana Vidrascu, 10') 
• Somewhere - Short animated film by critically acclaimed Romanian director Paul Muresan. A rite of passage in Purgatory, a story of meeting oneself.
