From July 1 to August 23, Palace presents the fifth edition of Sun Screens, its summer film programme. Alongside its regular screenings, the cinema will offer a selection of restored classics, premieres, repertory screenings and special event screenings.

This edition is built around two main themes: a critique of the bourgeoisie and an exploration of the mechanisms of power and manipulation.

The Bourgeoisie Under Scrutiny

To coincide with the release of Rosebush Pruning by Karim Aïnouz, the programme brings together films that examine the flaws and violence of the ruling classes, including La Cérémonie, Préjudice, Festen, The Handmaiden, Belle de jour and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. This reflection continues in contemporary works such as The Chronology of Water and Sentimental Value. The two instalments of Mektoub, My Love by Abdellatif Kechiche also offer a perspective on the film industry before and after #MeToo.

Manipulation and Power

Echoing Orwell: 2+2=5 by Raoul Peck, this section brings together classics such as Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove, 1984 and Animal Farm, alongside recent films including Bugonia, The Odyssey, Duse, Fiume o morte! and Sirât. The theme is also approached through satire with The Great Dictator, Inglourious Basterds and The Favourite.

Focus: Ildikó Enyedi

The release of Silent Friend provides an opportunity to rediscover the work of Ildikó Enyedi, from My Twentieth Century to her more recent films On Body and Soul and The Story of My Wife.

A Summer with Bergman

Finally, a focus on Ingmar Bergman will feature four restored masterpieces — Summer with Monika, The Seventh Seal, Persona and Wild Strawberries — offering audiences a chance to rediscover the enduring modernity of his cinema.
