Palace, in collaboration with CINÉ-CIRÉ, is offering a special screening of L'ÉTÉ DE JAHIA in the presence of the director and the lead actresses. 

This screening will be followed by a unique discussion, bringing together artistic perspectives, personal experiences, and analyses of migration issues, thanks to the presence of the actresses, both of whom have backgrounds that resonate with the film's narrative, the director, and experts from CNCD-11.11.11 and Ciré. A powerful moment to further reflect on contemporary migration realities.

L'ÉTÉ DE JAHIA

Olivier Meys

Synopsis : Jahia, who lives in an asylum center in Belgium, where her dim prospects for the future cast a shadow over her life. Then she meets the feisty and spirited Neta, a young Moldavian girl, who drags Jahia along with her crazy energy.

Speakers:

• Olivier Meys, director. After studying law and cinema, he produced a series of radio reports in Asia and South America. His first feature film, Bitter Flowers, shot between Paris and China, was critically acclaimed and won the Magritte Award for Best Belgian First Film in 2019. He continued in this vein with L’été de Jahia, his second feature film.
• Bancé Rania Noura, actress. Born in Côte d’Ivoire, she left her native country in late 2019/early 2020 to settle in France. Upon her arrival, she was welcomed into a center for unaccompanied minors in Béthune, where she quickly distinguished herself through her commitment. She was elected youth representative and received an award for merit from the department. In 2023, she was selected to play the lead role in director Olivier Meys' film, marking her first significant experience in the film industry.
• Sofiia Malovatska, actress. Ukrainian and living in France since 2022, she is currently studying performing arts at university. Passionate about arthouse cinema, psychological cinema, and contemporary theater, she has developed a keen artistic sensibility, which she is putting to use in her first steps in the film industry through her role in L’Été de Jahia.
• Cécile Vanderstappen, research and advocacy officer at CNCD-11.11.11 on migration issues.
• Soti Ngo, executive director of CIRE (Coordination and Initiatives for Refugees and Foreigners
