MASTERCLASS

One Thursday a month, the Palace puts the spotlight on a technical film trade. In partnership with film schools, the André Delvaux Academy, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and mediarte.

In November, Nico Leunen will talk about his work as an editor on the movie HOLLY. The masterclass will be preceded by a screening of the film, and the meeting will take place in English.

Nico Leunen (°1974) graduated in 1998 as a ‘Master in Experimental Film’ at the Sint Lukas School of Arts in Brussels, Belgium.
Soon after that, he discovered a natural feeling for editing. Since then he has worked as an editor on more than 60 feature films and full length documentaries. In 2013 he received the prestigious Culture Award of Flanders for Film for his contribution to Flemish cinema during his career so far. In 2015 he was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In 2021 he became the first Belgian member of the prestigious ACE (American Cinema Editors).

He has worked with such directors as Fien Troch, Felix van Groeningen, Jonas Carpignano, Crystal Moselle, Derek Cianfrance, Babak Jalali, Fabrice Du Welz and Ryan Gosling… He lives in Brussels with his partner, and film director, Fien Troch with whom he made two sons and four feature films.

Synopsis: Holly is a 15-year-old girl who seems to have predicted a deadly school fire. All eyes are on her. Teacher Anna is intrigued by Holly's strange premonition and invites her to volunteer in the grieving community. Everywhere she goes, Holly gives peace, warmth and hope to those she meets. But soon people begin to seek out her special gift and more and more is demanded of Holly...
