BE CURIOUS - JACQUES LACAN PARLE

Go back

BE CURIOUS x BELGIAN HERITAGE CINEMA

The exceptional screening of the film, restored for the occasion by Sonuma, will be followed by a meeting between Françoise Wolff and filmmaker Jorge Leon.

Writer, director, producer and president of the documentary section of the Commission de Sélection de la Communauté française for almost ten years, Françoise Wolff began her career as a journalist at RTBF in the 70s. As a young recruit, she was sent to the front by her program director to interview psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, then in Belgium. The result was a unique document, which she will be presenting to us. It's also an opportunity to look back at the important role she has played in French-language documentary in Belgium over the past 50 years.

JACQUES LACAN PARLE

Françoise Wolff

BE / 54', 1972, VO FR (sans sous-titre)

Synopsis : In September 1972, Jacques Lacan was invited to give a lecture to students at the Catholic University of Louvain. As much as the content of his remarks, what impresses here is the way Lacan stages his speech. His thought slowly gets under way from silence, suddenly accelerates and finds its rhythm, until the intervention of a young situationist interrupts the show. The second part of the film is an interview between Françoise Wolff and Jacques Lacan. Rarely has thought been seen so directly, in its act.

An evening organized by LPC (Cinéma belge en héritage) and Le Palace, in collaboration with the Cinémathèque de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Sonuma.
